FUP

A FUP Fair Use Policy is best used by an ISP as a way to manage internet traffic effectively. Companies such as PlusNet are open to this, allowing the customer to manage their connection to their needs. However, Virgin Media are very aggressive when it comes to a fair use policy. For downloading 2GB or more in a week between 4pm and midnight Monday to Friday will result in speeds being managed to the effect of 512kbit/s down and 196kbit/s up for a whole week.

Fair use policies are a way for an 'unlimited' broadband ISP to get out of supplying truly unlimited. Sky however does not have an FUP on its unlimited packages; neither do ntl:telewest Business.
