I just bought a new G1 phone (by Google) for my wife and I am rather impressed with this new cool phone.

I don't know the US scene too well, but everything overseas is prepaid. Can you check that out and see if its cheapest?

What do you mean everything overseas is prepaid? That is rubbish. I have lived in many different countries and you can always get a phone with subscription.

Ouch, that is pretty expensive for a phone. Can you get the G1 phone in the UK on prepaid basis already?

We use the Mike Network - my husband has a Blackberry and I use a quite a bit older cell phone. Everything is done up through Telus and we're quite happy with them, the phones and the rate plans.
