Cool Some things to be fixed on this site

I think it's high time to give a new look to this website. The interface should be made better and more organized. Plus when you click on your own username on any of the threads or posts you have made it asks you to add your own self as a friend. I mean how can you add yourself to be your own friend. This should be corrected.
What do you people say? Give suggestions so the site looks great for all.

This is the way vBulletin functions. There are some things that are inherent to the way vBulletin was written by it's developers, and you will find that the functionality of this forum is vastly the same as other websites that take advantage of vBulletin for their forum

The pop-up menu that appears when a username is clicked on is for the benefit of other users adding you as a friend, or for you adding someone else, or finding someone else's posts etc.

Think of it as a doorbell. You wouldn't expect to use your own doorbell on a regular basis but you would use other peoples'

Get it?

As regard to other bits and pieces we've only had the forum up and running for a couple of weeks, no doubt leondz and myself will be brainstorming and making revisions over christmas.

Don't worry, it's all happening! At present we are concentrating on getting the Wiki more full of decent descriptions and such but that's fast becoming a group effort with some of our first members

Watch this space... things will happen... but don't go ringing your own doorbell

If you have anything you would like added or can give any reccomendations on improvements you would like to see, rather than just "I don't like it at present" that would be super!

Cool Ring your own doorbell!?!

What I wanted to say was that this forum lets you ring your own doorbell which it should not. I mean how can someone add him or herself as his/her own friend. This forum lets that happen. From a programming point of view this is wrong. Only others should be able to add you as a friend. You yourself must not get that option in the drop down menu. And this was a suggestion. I didn't say anything sounding like "I don't like this". This was totally a suggestion for improvement and to make the site work more effectively and efficiently.

Yes you are right it is odd.

Leondz will have a look at this to see if it is something that we can change or something that will have to be referred back to the developers of vBulletin.

Thanks for your suggestion

Do you think it is a nice thing to have in this forum for the thread starter to rate the thread. If you take a look you will find out that a thread starter can also rate his/her thread him/herself. This option should be only available to people other than the thread starter. This is because a thread starter will always give full marks to his/her thread hence he/she will rate it to the maximum i.e. 5 (stars).
What do you think of it?

You're right, of course. These are bugs with the vBulletin forum system software. If we manually edit the code, we will lose sync with the main branch of code, meaning that when the next update comes (to fix e.g. a security flaw) we'll either have to undo the fix for the thread rating, or stay with an insecure piece of software.

I'll pass your comments on to the vBulletin staff.

By the way, if you want to compare qualifications - a BSc isn't much to shout about ;p

Admin is going to answer this question. The reason is that I also don't know the answer to this of your question. I also tried to upload an image or avatar to my profile but found out no link or button given to upload one. How do we do it? It's still a mystery!

And with this we come to another conclusion for another improvement to be made in the website. Don't you think that there should be an easy to find link or button to upload an image or avatar for your profile. I don't even know if there is a link or a button present to upload to ones profile since I can't find it anywhere.

Go to "User CP" in the top nav, then pick "Edit your avatar" from the side menu and upload from there.
