Default The most important thing for me is to only go with ISP that do short contracts.

The most important thing for me is to only go with ISP that do short contracts.
I'm with a smallish ISP, Namesco, with fixed 2Mbps and 1 month contract (not too restrictive conditions apply in first year).
If an ISP needs to tie you in for 18 months it shows a lack of confidence in their products and service. They are the ones who make it difficult to leave and are the main source of complaints that I see on other forums.
Some people are very happy with them but life is too short to take a chance on having to hang on a phone paying money for at best indifferent service.

Maybe some of the reason to have longer contracts is to bring you latest technology at a good price, like talktalk with their up to 24 meg service, for £6.99 pm including a call package.
they have to try and recoup their money somewhere
