Cool Best router out there

Can you people tell me which is the best router out there in the market? And from best I mean the best in the world and the latest and the most advanced. I want to know about two of them. The wireless router and the wired router. I have to buy both in a couple of days so I want to take suggestions on which brand and model to buy.

There's no such thing as the best one. Different ones will perform differently on different lines and with different exchange hardware.

What I usually do is go to the user forums of my ISP and ask there which ones give them best results on a line with similar attenuation to your own.
It's often down to trial and error even then.

They're nearly all wireless these days, but you can always plug in the Ethernet connection and turn the wireless off. That's what I do.

May I ask why you need a Wired AND a wireless router? I take it you realise that you will need a seperate broadband connection for each one?

If you have a Cable Internet connection, the Netgear WNR854T is very feature packed - Gigabit Ethernet Switch for your wired network and 802.11N 300Mbit wireless for your wireless devices.

If you have a ADSL connection, the Netgear DG834N is also very good, robust modem, 4 port LAN switch, ad 300Mbit wireless.

To be able to make a more specific reccomendation, we need to know more about your internet service. Is it Cable or ADSL? Who is your ISP? What will you be connecting to your router?

Cool Specs

Well I am not quite sure whether ADSL and DSL are two different things but I do know that it is DSL broadband connection. Talking about the ISP you might not know about my ISP since I live in Pakistan. My ISP is PTCL (Pakistan Telecommunication Limited) Broadband. It's 512 kbps bandwidth connection with 100Mbps connectivity speed. And I have to connect it with my computer. It can be a gaming console too e.g. Playstation 3, XBox 360, etc.

Right then, a Netgear DG834GT would be very well suited to you. It is easy to set up and has a very good built in ADSL modem which will connect directly to your phone line (in place of your existing ADSL Modem)

The Netgear DG834GT has built in wireless and a four-port ethernet switch, so is wired and wireless in one (as all wireless routers are)

Hope this helps!

Cool Yes this helps

Yes sure this did help. I will be doing some more research on the router you told me about. Please also tell me if US Robotics has some good stuff. Is it worth getting the US Robotics ones?

Cool Just asked

I just asked about US Robotics since I heard maybe 4 or 5 years back (lol) that US Robotics makes the best modems. So I just wanted to investigate if they made any good routers. What is the difference between a router and a modem? I mean in terms of computer science.

a router routes connections, a modem does not.
a router is required if more than one device is connecting to the internet.
US Robotics did make good dial-up modems, but that was many many years ago

Ah yes, especially the good old full-hardware 56k PCI cards, if I remember correctly - none of that winmodem crap!
