Default Netgear

They just come and put us in a home wireless network using netgear. How is this equipment? I have heard some good and some bad things about the wireless routers.

Thumbs up

There is nothing wrong in using netgear. Netgear has a good credibility for one of the popular routers and there is no problem in it.

What router do you have?

Some netgears are a little unreliable but mostly they are good kit.

The DG834GT has the biggest fanbase, it's a rock solid unit

It seems that since our entire internet service went down for a few days, I can't get my wireless to even work. After being on the phone all day today, I found out that the wireless card in my 3 week old laptop is faulty. Now I have to take it in for work.

Default Netgear

Open a browser window, and type 192.168.1.1 and hit Enter. The Netgear configuration interface appears like a webpage. If you haven't created an Administrator User Name and Password, just click Submit, or whichever word Netgear uses to make changes. Mine is a Belkin and uses Submit on every page.If you haven't yet created your User Name and Password, I can't strongly enough encourage you do so right away, as you are wide open to allowing anyone to lock you out of your own router and network. These routers come with some rather basic default configurations, which most people who know networking and routers know about, and all an individual needs to do is logon exactly as I am desribing here, enter a User Name and password, and then create a MAC address Allow list which would lock your computer out. The only way to reclaim your router and network would be to reset factory default specifications, which you can do via the reset button on the back of the router, and then rebuild your network from the ground up.There are links to the left of the window. Locate the channel area, and enter it by clicking on that link. Change the channel, and then click Submit, or whatever word Netgear uses. Before you log off of the router, please create your Administrator User Name and password. From then on out, in order to access the pages you will need to enter the name and password you created. In order to create this User Name and password, simply locate the area of your routers pages, enter it, enter the password twice, log off and back on. When you log back on you will know if it took by it requesting the password.
