Post What hardware do i need?

I need to know the hardwares i would require to set up an routed network for about 5 systems in my office. I have a 8Mbps line and i have to provide the network to 5 computers. Please let me know the hardware required and the estimated cost of setting up the network.

Assuming that the 8Mbps line is your internet connection, you could set up a simple network with a small router from linksys or netgear. I prefer linksys because I've had good luck with them over the years.

I set up a funeral home with a small linksys. They already had cable runs in place, terminating in a central location. That took care of a lot of the work. If this office has the cabling in place, or if your PCs have wireless cards already installed, you could probably get them set up for under US$100.

Without knowing the office layout, I couldn't get much more specific.

I hope you don't mind me jumping in with a newbie question at this point, but are the systems you're referring to "thin client" systems?

I read about those about a week ago, and I hear they're very cost effective.

Hardwares you would need would be a cable modem with a router accommodating four ports.

Either you would go for 8 port router . The other option would be to get a switch and connect the switch to one of the 4 router ports and connect 2 of the 5 computers to the switch.
