Default cable question

I have 20mb through my cable company for my computer. It still seems slow sometimes though. I have no idea what this all means. Can someone tell me how many mb's is normal to use and have good speed?

for fast web browsing... anything over 2-4meg would be fast enough not to notice any difference.

I don't think you will have a slow speed for 20mb connection. In my most guess your browser may be slow with a lot of caches or else your computer's physical memory may be slow.

good points
web browsing is a drain on RAM... especially if you have less than 512mb of ram.

Whoever calls firefox a crap must be a person who himself is either an alien to internet or is paid by microsoft to promote ie.

You can run a speedtest at www.speedtest.net

This will show if there are any limitations on the connection itself but if your speedtests comes out OK, then it's probably software on the PC slowing things down.

CCleaner is a GREAT little app (Google it, it's free) which cleans out the registry, temp files, and has an option to remove superflous startup programs which help speed up windows boot times and reduce the amount of RAM being used.

Good luck, and keep us posted

You should try Chrome. I experience that it is faster than Firefox (especially Firefox 3) and is more convenient (e.g. search directly in the address bar, i.e. you just type in some characters and it searches or suggests the useful addresses).

Of course, I still use Firefox because it has a lot of useful plug-ins.
