Cables use wired signal, thus, they are not dependent on weather condition. In contrast, satellites use wireless signal (radio waves), i.e. are much dependent on weather condition. Moreover, wired signal has wider bandwidth, i.e. could transmit more data. You could transmit TV signal, Internet signal, phone signal... in one cable.
