Default UK Censorship

WTF is all this! I went to wikipedia yesterday to make an edit, and was told that some random IP (not my fixed one) had been banned due to vandalism. Turns out, Be* filter their wikipedia accesses through some third-party sniffing organisation, and this isn't transparent. Hmph!

Links:

First, someone started complaining - https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16569

Then, guys over here noticed - http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/showthre...anded&sb=5&o=0

Here are the buggers who are doing it - http://www.iwf.org.uk/public/page.148.htm

The blocked page is this (nsfw) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgin_Killer - if you get a 404, this has been inserted by a third party.

Interesting that the UK is increasing censorship of the internet while China is decreasing it!

Are any of you guys blocked?

The JANET 40gbit network that supplies schools, the NSH, MoD and the government blocks it and returns 404's. 02 Mobile included, but if gone thru well known US proxies it is accessible. It is harmless, it could be worse.

Btw, loved the terminology!

I know there has been some talk of using a specific net nanny software for net access in schools. Which I am sort of ok with. Lets face it, with the best will in the world, large portions of the internet aren't exactly child friendly!!

I couldn't agree more! Tons of the net is utterly useless for most commercial work too, and I really think installation of an anti-facebook block for the marketing plebs is thoroughly in order

I can get it ok on O2. Nothing there to censor though as far as I can see. I download far worse stuff than that every......erm, what i mean is I'm sure people download far worse stuff without it being censored
